Improving My Self-Concept
From the reading assigned in chapter two I learned a lot about myself as a person. This chapter talks a great deal about self-concept and how our personal self-concept was formed. For example, at one point or another in life we have all compared ourselves to another human being. And most of the time we tend to compare ourselves to a superstar or someone that is in a different point in their lives than we are. Today's society has a messed up conception of how a girl is suppose to look. But if you ask me there is a point at which girls can become so obsessed with their image and weight that is becomes unattractive. I have learned that everyone is made different and not everyone is going to fit into a size zero. Positive self-talk can build esteem and make a person feel better about themselves. Once people get an idea into your head it can be hard to replace that idea but by comparing yourself to reasonable people you can be satisfied with yourself. As stated in the book "Who you are now is not who you are going to be in 10 years." We are all in a constant stage of change and we are always becoming. So if you're not happy with yourself right now don't stress or go to unhealthy extremes to become what society says you should be. Be happy with yourself and realize that there is more to life than trying to make everyone happy.
